Brutal Review of KPop Demon Hunters
I've seen way too many posts about this movie. If you're not too annoyed, here's another one.
As a die hard kpop fan, I just HAD to watch Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters when it came out. I mean, which kpop fan would not want to watch a movie all about their favourite genre of music? At first, I thought the film would be cringey and similar to the stories I’ve seen on fan pages ( and I was TOTALLY okay with that), but I was thankfully mistaken.
Firstly, I want to talk about how INSANELY GOOD the visuals were. I thought it was a such a fresh outlook on film, especially compared to other kids movies being released nowadays like Disney’s Luca and Elio. All of the characters looked relatable—like I could actually meet them in real life. I feel like people can actually fall in love with Rumi and Jino, whereas a lot of other movies have protagonists that feel distant and too otherworldly.

Furthermore, on top of the great visuals, the music was incredible. I’ve had songs like Golden on repeat since the movie came out (song linked below). The music is much better than the soundtrack’s of other films, and actually feature great artists like TWICE. The music is also representative of kpop, as it combines elements of song and dance to create an eye-catching performance, which the members do throughout the movie.

Additionally, the plot of the movie was unique and genuinely enticing. When I learned that Rumi, the demon hunter protagonist, was secretly part-demon, I truly felt really bad for her. Unlike in other movies directed to kids, I wanted to keep watching to see how the show would turn out. This shows that KPop Demon Hunters is for everyone, of every age, showing that it is truly an exceptional movie.
I also thought the theme, describing the importance of accepting one’s true self was shown very well throughout this movie. KPop demon hunters perfectly described the feeling of being an outcast in a society where everyone seems to be perfect through Rumi’s insecurity towards herself being part-demon. This unique plot allowed viewers to understand the subtle messaging within the plot without it being too overwhelming, which is what I think a lot of movies get wrong nowadays. It also brought a more fantastical twist to modern film, which is well needed within the variety of modern movies that focus heavily on real-life problems and social issues.
Ultimately, I couldn’t have asked for a better film. KPop demon hunters was everything I would have wanted from a kpop movie and I am super glad it was released.
Thank you!
